Dorrigo - Mid North Coast NSW

Within an hours drive of booming Coffs Harbour and historic Armidale is a very different Australia.

Dorrigo sits on the rugged eastern escarpment of the Great Dividing Range at an altitude of 762m and is the commercial centre of the Plateau.

Apart from the fabulous scenery, beautiful rain forests, waterfalls and national parks, Dorrigo is a vibrant community, with plenty of facilities, entertainment, arts, culture and heritage. Dorrigo is an excellent base to visit neighbouring towns like Bellingen, Urunga, Armidale, Grafton, Coffs Harbour or Nambucca Heads.

Dorrigo has a wonderful climate. It may be crisp early on a winter's morning, but the days are just glorious.

When the coastal strip swelters in summer, you can enjoy Dorrigo's lack of humidity. We could bottle our mountain fresh air, but then it would not be the same.

There is no where else that you can see so many stars at night, or such fabulous lightning displays when the summer storms are active.

We often boast that we do not have fires, floods or droughts. We do of course, but they are never as severe as other places we could mention.

The township of Dorrigo is conveniently situated just 40kms off the Pacific Highway, halfway between Sydney and Brisbane.

Enjoy the scenic drive along the Waterfall Way, stretching over a distance of 280kms.

Dorrigo is a place where you can browse among the craft shops, enjoy a coffee under an awning, picnic by yourself, talk to a friendly local in the street about the weather, or just take a stroll along the river that runs through our town. Not to mention that you can visit any one of the 14 National Parks (4 World Heritage) close by or take one of the dozens of short, half or full day drives around our plateau to experience our countryside for yourself.

Attractions

Dangar Falls Dorrigo

Cool, clean air makes our Plateau a healthy destination.

Dorrigo, overlooks the Coffs Harbour Coast, and is your gateway to the natural treasures of World Heritage listed parks.  Here you can walk and picnic in rainforests, beneath the splendour of ancient buttressed figs, giant tallowoods and Australian cedars.

Dorrigo makes an excellent base - there are magnificent plateau drives drawing you to mountains, gorges, rock tours, waterfalls and cascades, old villages filled with history and craft, and you'll find yourself on top of the Great Dividing Range making you proud to be Australian - and if you're not an Aussie, wishing you were!

A strong sense of community unites this rural town with regular festivities. For the active visitor there is much to choose from, including trout fishing, heart-pumping whitewater rafting, canoeing, pack horse riding, canyoning/abseiling. Quality venues are also available for golf, tennis, squash and bowling activities.

Experience the peacefulness of a bushwalk in one of our National Parks or Reserves, bird watching or swimming in the refreshing mountain rivers or in the solar heated swimming pool.
